CLASS 1

This term, our Reception class is learning about seasonal changes.  We have explored our school environment, where we are fortunate to have a rich variety of vegetation.  We have collected leaves of different shapes and colours, beech nuts and rose hips.  Some animals adapt their behaviour during Autumn, and we are learning about how the hedgehog prepares for his winter hibernation.  To help conserve this delightful gardener’s friend, we are adopting a Class 1 hedgehog, charting his progress with great interest!

In art, we used the beautiful book, Leaf Man, as inspiration for our pictures created with the natural materials we collected, and we have also explored how to mix autumnal colours.

Using the stories, ‘Come to School Too Blue Kangaroo’ and ‘I am Absolutely Too Small for School’, we have explored how it feels to start ‘big school’, and we are innovating the story by thinking of our own animal to bring to school, and our own reasons why we are too small for school.

We are reflecting on the differences between school and preschool in history, and asking our parents and grandparents about their school days, in order to discover how school days have changed over the years.

During this term, we are learning songs and practising our lines for  our Nativity play, which this year is entitled, ‘Everyone Loves a Baby’.
