In Class 5, we place a huge emphasis on engaging the children through a vibrant, creative and topic based curriculum. In addition to this, the Year 6 children also focus on thorough preparation for the end of Key Stage SATs and transition to secondary school. We are based in our lovely mobile classroom, which gives us plenty of space to learn and develop a growing sense of independence, and a feeling of moving towards the next phase of our learning journey.
Learning in Class 5 is challenging and rewarding and the children are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for managing and extending their own learning through a variety of experiences and tasks. This is coupled with rigorous embedding and developing core skills across the Maths, English and Science curricula in order to ensure the children begin secondary school as confident and resilient learners.
In addition to life in the classroom, we also widen the pupils’ experiences through trips to a variety of places including other schools, concerts and local visits. This academic year, we are looking forward to our 4 night residential trip to Hollowford in the Peak District, where the children experience the delights and challenges of activities such as canoeing, high ropes, caving and a range of exciting and rewarding team building opportunities.
Emphasis is placed on the children's growing maturity and they are encouraged to take on a range of leadership roles within the school, including House Captains, Worship Leaders, Sports Leaders and other key positions of responsibility. The children also represent the school as part of the wider community in a variety of ways, including sporting and musical events. The wide range of opportunities are all designed to prepare the children for the next stage of their school life and we are proud to send them on to secondary school as well- rounded, confident and responsible young people.
