Class 5

In Class 5, we place a huge emphasis on engaging the children through a vibrant, creative and topic-based curriculum. Learning in Class 5 is both challenging and rewarding; the children are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for managing and extending their own learning through a variety of experiences and tasks. We make sure that the curriculum is broad and balanced, with lots of opportunity for exciting and ‘hands on’ learning. Over the year, our topics will include The Ancient Maya, a fascinating journey to North America and finishing with a study of The Terrible Tudors.

We are based next to Class 6, which gives us plenty of space to learn and develop a growing sense of independence, and a feeling of moving towards the next phase of our learning journey. Pupils in Classes 5 and 6 work closely together and enjoy their shared learning experience.

Mrs Bevan teaches Class 5 every day other than alternating Fridays, when Mrs Wellard takes over. Mrs Hobbs, our wonderful TA, is with us every day to help and support the learning across the curriculum.

Emphasis is placed on the children's growing maturity and they are encouraged to take on a range of leadership roles within the school, including Curriculum Leaders, House Captains, Worship Leaders, Sports Leaders and other key positions of responsibility.  The children also represent the school as part of the wider community in a variety of ways, including sporting and musical events. These are all designed to further develop the children into responsible and well-rounded individuals. In addition to this, the Year 6 children also focus on thorough preparation for the end of Key Stage SATs and transition to secondary school.
